We are a friendly club based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. No matter what your aims or goals are, whether it is for keeping fit, losing weight, joining in our social groups or running to be competitive, we can help! Training sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6.30 at Wrenn School, Doddington Road, Wellingborough, NN8 2JJ.

Pre Welly 5 BBQ

This Thursday (21st July), the whole club will meet at the Old Grammarian Sports Ground at 6:30pm, instead of our usual training at Wrenn School.  This will be an opportunity for all marshals to run the Welly 5 route, which will then be followed by a BBQ.

Arrive wearing your club vest at the Old Grammarians from 6:30pm to allow time for a pre-run photograph before setting off on the course at 7pm.  The course will be marshaled by the teams who have been selected to run the Welly 5 by our captains.  This is so that everyone gets a go at running the course and receiving a time.

Please bring your own BBQ food and snacks for after the run.  As in previous years, the club will provide the disposable BBQs.  Please do not bring your own drinks - the OGs bar will be open on the night.

Upcoming EVAC events

Quite a few members of the club are 2nd claim members to EVAC (Eastern Veterans Athletics Club). EVAC is part of the British Masters and becoming a member entitles you to enter races from track to trail, 100m to Ultras and field events and you can even compete for GB Masters - often qualifying criteria being able to fund your travel. It is for people aged 35 and over.

One of the events we do as a club is the EVAC track and field league. We have 3 events this year and are competing in a league with Hunts AC, Peterborough AC, Nene Valley Harriers, Corby and Stamford Striders. The events involve 3 age categories, Men and ladies V35-49, V50-59 and V60+. Each event has 4 track events, usually a sprint, a middle distance including hurdles, a walk and a Relay race, plus 4 field events. Each event scores points, e.g. 6 for 1st place, 1 for 6th, the winning team is the one with most points. If you don't have a competitor in an event you score a blank. Each meet has different events to the one before.

We are looking for members who would like to compete for the club in this league. We like to try and put a competitor in each event. Ideally each match we need a minimum of 4 people in each age category, but more is better. You don't have to do all 3 meets, but if you can, - great!

If you are interested, please let one of the captains or vice captains know, register via www.evac.org.uk and look on the membership instructions as you must be registered prior to the first event you want to compete in. Membership is £12 per year. If you have previously been a member, your old number is likely to be kept in the records and will be re-used.

The 3 matches are in the evenings, usually from 6.30/7pm till 9pm.
  • Match 1 is at St Ives on 4th May (does clash with Silverstone 10k - but we still need people at both!)
  • Match 2 is at Peterborough on 18th May
  • Match 3 is at Corby on 10th August and we are jointly hosting this event with Corby. If anyone can help then, much appreciated.
Any questions please ask, these events are good fun, just ask those who have been involved. It gives you a chance to try something different!

Jon looks forward to replies - either by email  chair@wdac.org.uk, by Facebook or in person.

Cheque given to our 2015 charity

On Thursday we presented a cheque to the 2015 chosen charity Cransley Hospice.

Cransley Hospice is a charity that provides hospice and palliative care services for the population of Northamptonshire. The cheque was for a total amount of £870, money which was raised throughout the year from club raffles, cake sales and at various events including the Wellingborough 5.

The 2016 chosen charity is The Brain Tumour Charity.

Notice of the club AGM

The club’s annual general meeting will be held on 7th April at Wrenn School at 7pm. This will be instead of formal training.

An email has been sent around to all members confirming which current committee members are willing to remain in their roles and which roles are effectively vacant. Nominations will then be open.

A copy of the draft club accounts for the year ending 31 March 2016 has also been sent out via email. These are subject to final confirmation at the end of the month but to aid transparency, we have sent them out earlier for members to review. If you have any questions on the accounts, please email them to Steph in advance of the AGM so that our Treasurer can look into your question and reply at the AGM.
