Upcoming EVAC events

Quite a few members of the club are 2nd claim members to EVAC (Eastern Veterans Athletics Club). EVAC is part of the British Masters and becoming a member entitles you to enter races from track to trail, 100m to Ultras and field events and you can even compete for GB Masters – often qualifying criteria being able to fund your travel. It is for people aged 35 and over.

One of the events we do as a club is the EVAC track and field league. We have 3 events this year and are competing in a league with Hunts AC, Peterborough AC, Nene Valley Harriers, Corby and Stamford Striders. The events involve 3 age categories, Men and ladies V35-49, V50-59 and V60+. Each event has 4 track events, usually a sprint, a middle distance including hurdles, a walk and a Relay race, plus 4 field events. Each event scores points, e.g. 6 for 1st place, 1 for 6th, the winning team is the one with most points. If you don’t have a competitor in an event you score a blank. Each meet has different events to the one before.

We are looking for members who would like to compete for the club in this league. We like to try and put a competitor in each event. Ideally each match we need a minimum of 4 people in each age category, but more is better. You don’t have to do all 3 meets, but if you can, – great!

If you are interested, please let one of the captains or vice captains know, register via www.evac.org.uk and look on the membership instructions as you must be registered prior to the first event you want to compete in. Membership is £12 per year. If you have previously been a member, your old number is likely to be kept in the records and will be re-used.

The 3 matches are in the evenings, usually from 6.30/7pm till 9pm.
  • Match 1 is at St Ives on 4th May (does clash with Silverstone 10k – but we still need people at both!)
  • Match 2 is at Peterborough on 18th May
  • Match 3 is at Corby on 10th August and we are jointly hosting this event with Corby. If anyone can help then, much appreciated.
Any questions please ask, these events are good fun, just ask those who have been involved. It gives you a chance to try something different!

Jon looks forward to replies – either by email  chair@wdac.org.uk, by Facebook or in person.
